The Proximity Sensor Not Working is Not a Very Common Problem but it Happens Sometimes. This is Not a Very Serious Problem and Most People can Fix it themselves (DIY).

Here I will Discuss Problems you can Face if the Proximity Sensor of your Phone is Not Working and Simple Solution to Fix it.

These solutions apply to all Models of the iPhone and All Brands of Android Smartphone including – Samsung, Realme, Oppo, Huawei, Xiaomi / Redmi, LG, Motorola, Mobicel, Lenovo, Nokia etc.

What is the Function of Proximity Sensor

The proximity sensor can detect distance of the phone from our skin or any other object. This feature is used to disable the Touchscreen when we receive a Phone Call and the phone is held near our Ear to Avoid any Unintentional Input.

Test to Check if Proximity Sensor is Working or Not

The First thing to do is to Test if the Proximity Sensor if Not Faulty and is in Working Condition.

In case of Apple iPhone, Use the in-built Feature called ‘Diagnostics and Usage’ to Test All the Software and Hardware of your iPhone.

In case of Android, do following to Test the Proximity Sensor:

Step-1

Go To => Settings => About Phone => All Specs => Kernel Version

PS: This is How I reached the “Kernel Version” Option in my Redmi Note 5Pro. The Option could be somewhere else in your Brand and Model.

Step-2

Tap 5 Times on the “Kernel Version” Option. A New Screen to Test All the Hardware will Appear.

Step-3

Perform “Proximity Sensor Test“. It Must Pass the Test which means that the Proximity Sensor Hardware is OK and is Not Faulty.

How to Fix if the Proximity Sensor Issue in iPhone

If you have not done any Screen Replacement and still facing the Problem then the Simplest Solution is to Perform a Soft Reset. in 99% Cases this will Solve and Fix the Problem. Read: How to Reset iPhone

But if you are facing the problem after Screen Replacement, then chances are the something is blocking the Proximity Sensor. Most Mobile Phone Repairing Technicians will use some kind of Glue or Tape while Screen Replacement. Ask the technician to check the Sensor Connector to the Main Logic Board and also Check if some Glue or Tape or Paint is Blocking the Sensor. Remove any such thing to Fix the Issue.

If you just installed a Screen Protector Glass before the Sensor Problem Occurred, make sure the Glass is for your Model and is Installed Properly. Also make sure that the Back cover of the iPhone is Not Covering the Sensor.

After Screen Replacement

As I mentioned above that Most Mobile Phone Repairing Technicians will use some kind of Glue or Tape while Screen Replacement. Ask the technician to check the Sensor Connector to the Main PCB and also Check if some Glue or Tape or Paint is Blocking the Sensor. Remove any such thing to Fix the Issue.

If you just installed a Screen Protector Glass before the Sensor Problem Occurred, make sure the Glass is for your Model and is Installed Properly. Also make sure that the Back cover of the iPhone is Not Covering the Sensor.

No Screen Replacement and Still the Problem

  1. Restart the Phone
  2. Go To “Call Setting“. In Most Android Smartphones, you will Find the “Call Setting” Option by Pressing the Dealer. In some Brands and Models, you may find the Option in Setting.
  3. Select “Incoming Call Settings

  4. Torn ON the “Proximity Sensor” Option

  5. in 99% of the Cases, this will Solve and Fix the Problem.
  6. But in Case if the Problem is Not Solved then Soft Reset the Phone and Check.

      Please Reset the Phone and Check. Otherwise either Update of Flash the Software and Check. If the problem is still there then the sensor might be faulty.
