How to Check Ringer of a Mobile Phone

To check if the ringer of a mobile phone is faulty or damaged, keep the multimeter in buzzer mode and check the ringer. Value must be between 8 to 10 Ohms. If the value is between this range then the ringer is good and does not need replacement. If the value on multimeter is 4-5 or 12-14 then change the ringer.

How to Check Vibrator or Motor of a Mobile Phone

To check vibrator or motor of a mobile phone, keep the multimeter in Buzzer Mode and check the vibrator. Value must be 8 to 16 Ohms. If the value is between 8-16 Ohms then the vibrator is good. Otherwise change it.

How to Check Speaker or Earpiece of a Mobile Phone

Check the speaker / earpiece with a multimeter on Buzzer mode. Value must be in the range of 25 to 35 Ohms. If the value is in this range then the speaker / earpiece is OK and need not be changed. Otherwise, change the speaker / earpiece.

How to Check Microphone or Mic of a Mobile Phone

Keep the multimeter in buzzer mode and check the microphone. Value reading on the multimeter must be in the range of 600 to 1800 Ohms. There will also be a Beep or Buzz sound from the multimeter.

How to Check Keypad of a Mobile Phone

Keep the multimeter on Buzzer mode and check Rows and Columns or the Key Pad. If there is Beep or Buzz sound from the multimeter then Keypad is ok, otherwise it is faulty.

Mobile Phone Keypad Track Row Column

Mobile Phone Keypad Track Row Column

Battery Connector

Keep multimeter on 20V DC and check. Value must be 1.5 to 3.5 V DC.

Battery

Check voltage with a multimeter. Keep multimeter on 20V DC and check. Value must be 3.7 V DC or above.

ON / OFF Switch

Check voltage with a multimeter. Keep multimeter on 20V DC and check. Value must be between 2.5 to 3.7 V DC.

NOTE:  Please note that only one side of the microphone will show value. If we check by reversing the Red and Black Probes / Test Leads of the multimeter and check the microphone then there will be no value.

Fault Finding of SMD Mobile Phone Components

Coil

Check the SMD coil with a multimeter on Buzzer Mode. If it is good then it the multimeter will give a Beep or Buzz sound. If there is no sound then the coil is faulty. Replace it with a new one.

Resistor or Resistance

Check it with a multimeter on Buzzer Mode. If it is good then the multimeter will give a Beep or Buzz sound. If there is no sound then the SMD resistor is faulty. Replace it with a new one.

Capacitor

To check SMD Capacitor with a multimeter on Buzzer Mode. If it is good then the multimeter will NOT give any Beep or Buzz sound. If there is sound then the capacitor is faulty. Replace it with a new one.

Diode

Check it with a multimeter on Buzzer Mode. If it is good then the multimeter will NOT give any Beep or Buzz sound. If there is sound then the diode is faulty. Replace it with a new one.

LED

Keep the multimeter in Buzzer mode and check the LED. If the LED is good then they will glow otherwise not.

Coil and Boosting Coil

Check for continuity. If there is continuity then the coil or the Boost Coil is good otherwise it is faulty.

Network IC

Use a Analog DC Power Supply to check Network IC. Switch ON DC Power Supply and call any number from your mobile phone. The Needle of the DC Ampere will start moving. This shows that the Network IC is OK and not fault.

Power IC and CPU

Adjust voltage of the DC Power Supply to 4.2. Place the Red Probe / Test Lead of the DC Power Power Supply to the “+” of the Battery Connector of the mobile phone and the Black Probe / Test Lead to ““:

  1. If DC Ampere is over 6 then Power IC or CPU is damaged. Check by replacing Power IC and the CPU one by one.
  2. If there is no movement of the Ampere Needle of the Power Supply then the Battery connector, On / OFF Switch Track, RTC or Network Crystal is damaged. Give heat to these components using hot air blower. If the problem is not solved then check by replacing them one by one.
  3. If the Ampere Needle fluctuates below 2 ten there could be problem with software or RTC (Real Time Clock).
  4. If the Ampere needle stands at some fixed point then there is problem with the Flash IC.
  5. If there is beep sound from the DC Power Supply then there is problem with “+” and “” or the mobile handset is short.

PS: When checking a faulty mobile phone with DC Power supply, connect the Red Probe to “+” and Black Probe to “” of the Battery Connector of the Mobile Phone.

Notes

  • Most mobile phone repair people and technician check only above parts to solve mobile phone hardware problems.
  • All other parts including SMD electronic components and ICs are generally not checked for fault. There is no good sure test for these parts. The problem is either solved by jumper or by trial and error (check by replacement).

You can also try cleaning the camera lens or updating the camera app to see if the issue resolves.

You can check if your mobile phone's microphone is faulty by making a test call or recording a voice memo. If the other person on the call cannot hear you clearly or if the voice memo is distorted or barely audible, your microphone may be faulty. Additionally, if you hear any crackling or hissing sounds during a call or if the microphone app is crashing frequently, it may be faulty.

You can check if your mobile phone's speaker is faulty by playing some music or making a test call on loudspeaker mode. If the sound is distorted, crackling, or barely audible, your speaker may be faulty. Additionally, if the volume is significantly lower than usual or if the speaker app is crashing frequently, it may be faulty. You can also try plugging in headphones or an external speaker to see if the issue resolves.

how to replace a capacitor and resistor on a samsung phone

    • Most Technicians just don’t bother to replace the Tiny SMD Capacitors and Resistors. They just remove them using soldering iron and the phone works fine. But if you can get the Capacitor and resistors then replacing is easy. Just desolder the faulty ones and replace with New ones using solder paste and hot air blower.

Hello sir, my Samsung J7 Pro 2017 fell off from my pants pocket to the floor while I was sitted down on work (it fell with the screen facing upwards). When it hit ground, this weird white squares appeared on the screen, but they instantly disappeared, and the screen didn’t showing anything., except for a strange red/white flash every 10 seconds or so. The phone also vibrated whenever the flashes occured (a short vibration, like the one that happens when you turn on the phone, or put it to charge). At this point, I thought that it was the screen that had broken up, but later, some loud, annoying sounds could be heard from the phone, they were like strong buzzing sounds. They eventually stopped, but came back every now and then, and only stopped completely when the phone finally ran out of battery. Could you please help me with this problem? Could the motherboard have been damaged with the fall, being that the reason of the sounds? Or are they related to the screen?

And i got 2 new mobiles like a month ago but when i check them by connecting opposite colour probs to the opposite colour battery connector of them, the needle of analog multimeter moves slightly and go forward and remain there, i have read that if the needle of analog multimeter moves forward even a little, it means that the mobile is faulty and short, but both of them work fine. When i checked them through dc power supply, there was no sign of any short. So plz clarify?

I have Karbon a21 the power on mother board is OK but no display. I changed the display but still it is blank and the display is getting hot at the bottom. What to do now?

    • There is some short in the phone. The phone Karbon A21 has faults in its design and manufacturing. This is a common problem in all A21. It is better to get rid of the phone and buy a new one. Any money you spend on its repairing will be waste. Never trust Karbon.
